Material Handling Equipment (MHE) License

What You Need To Know in Ontario

MHE License in Ontario

If you operate or supervise powered industrial trucks (such as forklifts, order pickers, pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment, otherwise known as MHE), you need proper training and documented certification before you work behind the controls.

In Ontario, formal training is part of workplace safety requirements, and Correct Compliance provides CSA-aligned, employer-accepted MHE certification that keeps your team and worksites compliant and safe.

Is an MHE License The Same Thing as a Forklift License?

In Canada and Ontario specifically, there is not a government-issued forklift license. Instead, employers must ensure that anyone who operates powered material handling equipment (such as a forklift) is trained and evaluated as competent to operate that equipment safely.

Employers are responsible for establishing that competency through a third-party professional safety training company or workplace-based training that meets the standards of the CSA B335-15 safety standard and Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)

Did You Know...

In Ontario, there is no "forklift license." However, you will need MHE training that has been designed using guidelines set out in the CSA B335-15 (R2024) Safety Standard for Lift Trucks,  Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and Regulation 851: Industrial Establishments.

Who Needs an MHE License?
