Safety Training For Warehouse Workers
What Ontario Employers & Workers Need To Know
Warehouse environments are fast-paced, high-traffic workplaces where safety depends on proper training, awareness, and consistent procedures. In a warehouse, workers may be required to operate forklifts, manually lift items and understand proper material handling. Because of this, warehouse workers in Ontario face a range of hazards that require job-specific safety training.

At Correct Compliance, we help warehouse employers and workers understand their occupational health and safety training requirements so they can maintain a safe, efficient, and compliant workplace.
Why Safety Training Matters in Warehouses
Warehouses combine people, machinery, and constantly moving materials in tight spaces. Without proper training, workers may be exposed to serious risks such as:

-
Forklift and powered equipment collisions
-
Struck-by or caught-in hazards
-
Improper lifting and musculoskeletal injuries
-
Loading dock accidents
-
Slips, trips, and falls
-
Hazardous material exposure (depending on goods stored)
Under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), employers are responsible for ensuring workers are trained, competent, and supervised for the specific tasks they perform.
Forklift and Equipment Training: A Common Requirement
One of the most common training requirements in warehouse environments is powered lift truck training, including forklifts and other material handling equipment.

Workers who operate equipment such as:

-
Counterbalance forklifts
-
Reach trucks
-
Order pickers
-
Pallet jacks (powered models, where applicable)
-
Turret trucks
Workers must be properly trained and evaluated before use. Correct Compliance's Material Handling Equipment (MHE) provides training for those using forklift classes 1 through 7. Our course been designed using guidelines set out in the CSA B335-15 (R2024) Safety Standard for Lift Trucks, Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and Regulation 851: Industrial Establishments.

Other Common Warehouse Safety Training Topics
Depending on the role and workplace environment, additional training may include:

-
Manual material handling and safe lifting techniques
-
WHMIS (hazardous materials handling and labelling)
-
Warehouse pedestrian safety and traffic control
-
Loading dock safety procedures
-
Fall protection (for mezzanines or elevated work areas)
-
Emergency response and evacuation procedures
-
Ergonomics and injury prevention
Training requirements vary depending on job duties, equipment used, and site-specific hazards. Some courses may be taken online, while others must be taken in-person through a reputable safety training company.

Not Sure What Training You Need in Ontario?
Warehouse safety training is not one-size-fits-all. Requirements can change based on the size of the facility you work in, the type of goods stored, the equipment used, and the specific job roles. So, if you're not sure what training you need, we can help.

At Correct Compliance, we work with employers to identify exactly what training is required for their warehouse operations, ensuring compliance with Ontario regulations while keeping workers safe and confident on the job.
